Opening Day 2011

Good Morning & Happy Sunday!

Guess what we did this weekend?? We went to Opening Day for baseball in Tampa. It just so happened that the Baltimore Orioles were going to be in Tampa to play the Tampa Bay Rays. Craig’s cousin was also in town from Baltimore for a work trip & his conference was in Tampa. So the three of us got tickets to the game. None of us had been to an Opening day game, so it was pretty cool πŸ™‚ We’ve all been to regular season Oriole games, but to get to go to an Opening day game…that was just a once in a lifetime kind of thing!

Craig & I both decided to take a half day on Friday so that we could get to Tampa in plenty of time, but also so that we could get our marriage license from the Courthouse before heading down to Tampa.

(black spots are for safety reasons πŸ™‚ )

Can’t believe it- less than 60 days πŸ™‚ It’s pretty crazy to say that I’m getting married NEXT month πŸ˜€ Actually I love saying it…I say it all the time. It’s such a cool feeling…gotta soak it all up while I can πŸ™‚

We arrived in Tampa around 3:30pm Friday afternoon. Craig’s cousin was still in his work conference, so we just waited at his hotel for him. We sat by the pool & just talked about how nice the weather was. Compared to Wednesday & Thursday, the weather was absolutely beautiful!

Around 5pm, we headed to the stadium- Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay’s stadium is actually INSIDE. It’s kind of weird watching baseball inside, but at least you don’t have to worry about sitting out in the rain or extreme heat. Although thisΒ game would have been PERFECT for sitting outside, since the weather was so nice.

^The stadium. Craig’s cousin in the orange & Craig in the black.

I actually got one of the game balls!! It’s the first ‘real’ baseball that I have ever gotten. I felt pretty special πŸ˜‰

Inside the stadium, you can pet stingrays. It’s on the side of the field & you can go before or during the game to pet them. Of course I had to go & pet them πŸ™‚

^Look at what they had for one of the concessions-Β a glutten free stand. Made me think of Lindsay! πŸ™‚ I just thought it was pretty cool that they offer gluten free products in the stadium. I was impressed.

I always love the opening of the game- where they have the anthem. It makes me feel so proud to be an American!

The game was really good & the best part is that the Orioles WON!! Woohoo!! The rest of the night we just went to Applebee’s to grab some dinner & then we headed back to the hotel.

The next morning I woke up early & hit the hotel gym. I always like exploring hotel gyms. This one was not that great…but the had a treadmill, so I just ended up doing a long run with some sprints thrown in between. After showering & eating breakfast, we headed back to Orlando.

The rest of yesterday was spent laying out in the sun- PERFECT day for getting some sun πŸ™‚ And then we went up to Ale House to watch the Final Four games. I was sad that Kentucky didn’t get in..guess we will be rooting for Butler!

This morning I got up & made everyone breakfast. Craig’s cousin flies out around 3pm today, so I think Craig will be taking him to the airport around 1pm. I will be heading to the gym soon & hopefully getting some more sun! It’s just so perfect out πŸ™‚

Hope you enjoy your day as well! I’ll be catching up on blogs this afternoon- sorry for the lack of commenting- it’s just been a busy couple of weeks, and I can’t see it slowing down. But I’m LOVING every minute of it πŸ˜€

^that picture made laugh because of how my head is tilted πŸ™‚

  1. You two look absolutely adorable. I too enjoy hotel gyms. I went to an Embassy in DC for the National Marathon and it was like the best hotel gym I’ve ever seen. PLUS there was a hot tub. After a marathon, that is heaven. Congrats on the marriage license!

PS – I linked to your blog today when talking about some of my fave food bloggers (I LOVE YOUR RECIPES – especially the substitutions- they never sacrifice the flavor)

Sounds like you had a great day, even better that your team won. Being from Wisconsin all I really know about baseball (because I don’t follow it myself) is that the Brewers started out awesome on Thursday but ended up losing by 1 run and they lost again yesterday (right?).

How exciting to say next month you’ll be married!

  5. Looks like a fun weekend! I love going to baseball games…it’s one of my favorite sports to watch in person!

The gluten free concession stand is pretty impressive! It’s nice to see that sporting venues are offering alternatives to standard ballpark food – hot dogs, nachos, and pretzels.

  7. Opening day?! How fun! Even though I am not a huge fan of baseball, going to games is always a great time especially when you can pet stingrays! haha
It’s awesome that the food industry is having more and more options for every diet requirement out there. There are an increasing number of people who cannot eat gluten, so having these choices allows even more people to join in on the experience

Ahh! Congrats on the marriage license! Funny story behind ours – we got it the day before my birthday so according to our marriage license I was 20 when we got married (even though I was really 21).

Looks like you guys had such a great time. πŸ™‚
