A Rough Start

Happy Tuesday πŸ˜€

How was your Monday? Hope it’s wasn’t too bad. I know sometimes it’s hard to get back in the groove after a weekend, but thankfully we are past it!

Oh, and before I go on- I got a lot of questions about the banana ketchup…it tastes like bananas, but it’s not super sweet. It’s REALLY good. I wish I could give you all a bottle πŸ™‚ I think you’d really like it!

If you follow me on Twitter, then you know that I got off to a pretty rough start yesterday. I don’t know why, but I was having some REALLY bad problems with my Crohn’s disease. As you know, I don’t like to talk about it too often…because I don’t want to be Debbie Downer. But yesterday was unlike any pain that I’ve in a while. I woke up feeling kind of funky…and I knew something was wrong, but I headed to the gym anyways. Sometimes a good workout helps my Crohn’s because it ‘gets things moving.’ (sorry if that is TMI) Yesterday was different. I completed 5 minutes on the treadmill (running & I couldn’t run anymore- it hurt my stomach too much). Then I headed over and did a 45 minute bicep/ tricep workout (kind of like the one on Saturday that I posted) & finished up with 10 minutes on the elliptical. I was hoping to get some more cardio in, but my body was NOT having it.

Once we got home, I took a shower..and then things got REALLY bad. I was starting to get ready for work when I just HAD to sit down, well more like curl up into a fetal position. I could not move. It hurt too much to stand, and sitting wasn’t any better either. Craig came upstairs about 20 minutes later (after he ate his breakfast) & found me just laying there. It was hurting so bad that I was crying, and I could tell that he just felt so bad for me. I really don’t cry often…it takes a LOT…so I think he could tell that I was in some severe pain.

He stayed with me for about 10 minutes (& was so sweet- kept asking me if there was anything he could get me), but then he had to get ready for work. I ALSO needed to get ready for work. Honestly yesterday was one of those days that I definitely would of used a sick day, but I am trying to save my vacations days since I don’t have many left. (Due to the wedding & our honeymoon) I managed to get myself together, threw on some clothes & headed out the door. I could barely walk to my car, I was hunched over like an old man…but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, ya know?!

Once I got in my car I only had ONE thing on my mind. Now, please understand I totally know that this is TMI- so consider this your warning! The only thing that I have found that ‘makes me go’ (if ya know what I mean! πŸ˜‰ ) is Starbucks iced coffee. I know that might sound weird to some of you, but I think it’s because it is SO strong. (& typically I get it black- no cream, no sugar…so it’s EVEN stronger!) I immediately headed to Starbucks & ordered my Venti Iced Coffee. I didn’t even notice this, but the lady that works there drew a cute holly plant next to my name –>

Cute, huh?! πŸ˜‰

Once I got to work I was still feeling pretty gross…and I could NOT eat a thing!Β (even toast made meΒ feel like I was going toΒ get sick) Not eating breakfast is NOT like me…I live for breakfast! πŸ™‚Β It honestly (again TMI) felt like a HUGE gas bubble that I just couldn’t get out..you know how painful those are, right? By 11am I didn’t think I could take it any more- I was literally hunched over at my desk with my head on the top of my desk…& then the tears started coming 😦 I couldn’t help it, the pain was unbearable.

I was really trying to avoid it, but eventually I had to go & tell my boss that I NEEDED to go home. I was even nervous about driving because of how bad my stomach hurt, but Craig offered to come & get me. My boss was SO understanding & I CANNOT tell you HOW grateful I am to have such an awesome boss (& caring!) & co-workers. He told me that yes I could go home (no questions asked) but told me that I first had to call my doctor to find out if I needed to go to the hospital. He said he would take me if I needed to go, but didn’t want me driving home if in fact I needed a doctor.

I called my doctor, but he wasn’t available- he was in surgery, but I left a message with my nurse. I headed home (slowly buy surely) & went straight to my bed with a heating pad. I curled up & just sat there with the warmth on my stomach/ abdominal area. After about 30 minutes of this I was feeling a bit better, so I thought I would stand up & walk around to see how I felt. I was feeling a lot better- it’s amazing what a heating pad can do!! (I also had to use the restroom- ugh- sorry TMI!)

I decided to go back to work, but first I stopped to get some chicken noodle soup with extra extra saltines. (yes, that is exactly how I ordered my to-go order – extra EXTRA crackers πŸ™‚ ) I don’t know what it is, but chicken noodle soup really is a cure all. I got back to work, ate my lunch (I think getting food in my stomach definitely helped) & finished my work day. I had a lot of work to do, so I was glad I went back & I was SO thankful that I was feeling better to go back.

On my drive home, my nurse called me back & told me she talked to my doctor & they want to do a CAT scan on me to see if there is any inflammation in my abdominal area. I should be getting it soon because she is putting me on the priority list to get the appointment. I am calling the office tomorrow to make it.

So that was my kind of rough day. Like I said though, I was pretty happy that I ended up feeling better- not quite 100%…but about 75%. I’m hoping everything turns out ok. I’m a little nervous…but not too bad. I’ve had a few CAT scans done before, so it’s nothing new. But still, any of those tests are kind of nerve racking.

Needless to say, when I got home I was in the mood for something really good for dinner…one of my favorite meals. TACO night! I know alot of people do ‘Taco Tuesday,’ but I needed a ‘Taco Monday’ for sure!! πŸ˜‰ Tacos are just those kind of meals that make you happy…right?! (at least for me- haha! πŸ™‚ )

We had the complete spread–>

(Tomatos, lettuce, corn, black beans, salsa & Mexican cheese)

^Stand n’ Stuff taco shells– we LOVE these!!

^Lean ground chicken with taco seasoning

And last but not least…our favorite topping…guacamole!! I always have to buy extra avocades so that there is enough guac for both of us πŸ™‚
